MANDEVILLE

In this program takes us to an airfield to the west of the town of Gore in the South Island of New Zealand.

At the airfield of Mandeville, aircraft are painstakingly restored to full flying glory.

But not only the commercially built aircraft are played with, but here they have built a replica of a plane that was built in someone's garage in 1910 ... it was built to prove if it could have flown.   One who is involved in the building of it believes it will.  This is a great story.

This weekend also attracted a number of traction engines and they steamed away in one corner of the airfield while the planes took to the skies.

The airfield is a grassy one and dates right back to pre-World War 2 times.   A couple of buildings here are from that period too.

The Croydon Aviation Heritage Trust is an organization that displays these aircraft and most of the planes that are in the hangers are in an airworthy state and are flown.

This program brings something a little different with vintage aircraft and traction engines.

An unusual combination, but fun to watch.

If ever you get the chance to go to New Zealand this is a very interesting place to visit.
