THE JUNCTION RALLY

This rally sited at the junction of the Australia's two biggest rivers, the Murray and Darling Rivers, lends itself to much of Australia's past on on the water and on the land.

In this program, we look at many of the engines that were used in the outback region, and at this rally there were lots of them and in a variety of sizes.

There were a variety of chainsaws, including the Tallas two man saw - what a beast that one was.  Plus there are cars and trucks, one being a very rare Vulcan Motor Lorry built in the early 1920's.  There is a brick making machine, a gold mining plant, but alas, no gold.  But the machinery is fascinating.  Woodworking tools.  We have a look at them.  These are amazing.

On the rivers there are a variety of paddle boats and what a marvelous spectacle it is.   But the most spectacular vision of all is the towing of the barges.  In days past, this would have been an everyday sight as the river boats and barges were used to transport produce and products up and down the rivers of the Murray and Darling, with Wentworth being a major river port.

Today, few barges remain as does the number of river boats, and the turning of the barges in tow is really something to see.

For the old, this is a program to bring back those memories of what it once was, and for the young, the opportunity to see and learn through a glimpse of how it was both on the water and on the land, for all that's in this program is more of Australia's Heritage.

This is a most enjoyable program.
