PREPARING THE GROUND

Preparing the Ground is all about getting the land ready for the sowing that is to come later.  From the use of horses, in two horse teams to teams of 6, for those of you who love to see these gentle giants, this program will be one of your favourites.

Some of the other items on this program of ploughing is the small acreage tractors, the BMB, Trusty for the orchard or market garden, and for the larger properties, a variety of tractors in sizes to suit.

One of the major differences in this program is that it is almost entirely shot in the field with the items in operation.  Apart from seeing tractors actually working, you will see a variety of implements that were available for farmers at this time in our recent history.

See mouldboards in use, scarifiers, harrows - these items being pulled behind tractors, market garden tractors and of course, horses.

This program has been made possible through the efforts of the members of the Hamilton Pastoral Museum who put on these days every year.

Fully narrated throughout with interviews from people who have worked with these items, this program is great for all who would like to relive the times of our past, but an equally valuable program this is suitable for teaching younger ones about our pioneering heritage.
